Carol Baume
Dr. Carol Baume is a specialist in applied research for project planning and evaluation, particularly for social marketing, health communication, and behavior change interventions. She holds a Ph.D. in International Development Education and Communication (Stanford University); an Ed.S. in Evaluation Research (Stanford University); an M.A. in International Development Education (Stanford University); and a B.A. in American Studies from the University of Michigan. Dr. Baume has expertise in qualitative, quantitative, and market research methods, and in a range of subject areas in health and development. She designs practical formative research that is focused and efficient, yet theory-based. She has also designed and managed formal evaluations, including large cross-national studies looking at change over time. Dr. Baume was in charge of research studies for NetMark, a public-private partnership to promote the use of mosquito nets to prevent malaria. NetMark's research agenda included market, communication, and behavioral research in seven African countries. In prior AED work, she designed and conducted studies on infant feeding, de-worming, early childhood development, HIV prevention behaviors among adolescents, and care-seeking for malaria. In addition to her research reports, she has authored or co-authored a number of publications. Dr. Baume has worked extensively in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and has experience in several Asian countries and newly-independent states of the former Soviet Union. She is proficient in both Spanish and French.
