Antje Becker-Benton

Antje Becker-Benton, a native of Germany, has been working as a Senior Communication Specialist with AED since 2009. She currently leads the technical implementation of the C-Change program, including its Social and Behavior Change Communication and capacity building activities, and also serves as the Deputy Director. Prior to that, she worked for the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP) since 1997, including four years in Uganda and Ethiopia as Senior Communication Advisor for the AIDS Resource Center and the AFFORD Social Marketing Project, respectively. Prior to this field placement, she was seconded as BCC advisor to the CORE Initiative, focusing on faith-based and community-based HIV/AIDS programming. She is experienced in designing and implementing strategic communication programs at the regional, national and community levels for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, malaria, family planning, and child health programs; she has developed interventions and materials with youth, couples, sex workers, armed forces, and fishermen. Ms. Becker-Benton started her communication career in 1996 with a youth-for-youth radio talk show on the White Mountain Apache Reservation and developed a strong interest in field work in Africa while developing the AIDS workplace communication strategy for Daimler/Chrysler with the GTZ in 2001. She holds Masters degrees in both Political Science (Free University, Berlin) and Health Education/Promotion (JHU).
