Yaya Drabo
Yaya Drabo has more than 30 years of experience in IEC/BCC - 15 years as an Associate Professor and 20 years as a Health Communication Specialist. Dr. Drabo holds a PhD and two Masters in Education and Cultural Anthropology. He is a renowned trainer throughout West and Central Africa. Dr. Drabo currently serves as a Senior Communication Advisor on USAID's Health Communication Partnership as well as the PREVENT project. From 1995 to 2004, Dr. Drabo served as the BASICS project's IEC/BCC Regional Advisor for Francophone Africa in Senegal, working with partners such as WHO (Headquarters and Afro Region), UNICEF (Headquarters, the West and Central Africa Regional Office, and country offices), FHA (Abidjan), World Vision, Plan International, PANOS, CIERRO (Ouagadougou), national and private radio stations and programmers (Burkina Faso, Mali, and Senegal), ministries of health (Benin, Cameroon, DRC, Mali, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, and Togo), and national Health Education Units (Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, and Togo). From 1990 to 1994, Dr. Drabo served as the Director of the sub-regional Office of the Centre for African Family Studies (CAFS) in Lome, Togo. His career also includes roles as Program Director of the Pan-African Federation of Film Makers (FEPACI), and as Associate Professor in Communication and Anthropology at the University of Bordeaux. Dr. Drabo specializes in program reviews, strategy design, message and educational material development, and training. He speaks French and English fluently.
