Rebecca Fields

Rebecca Fields is a public health specialist with more than twenty five years' experience working in health programs in developing countries. With an undergraduate degree in microbiology and an M.P.H. in environmental health, she has worked primarily in the areas of infectious disease control, particularly immunization, infectious disease surveillance, injection safety, and oral rehydration therapy. For five years, she directed AED's work on PEPFAR-funded injection safety projects -- specifically, activities related to behavior change, communication, and advocacy for injection safety in 11 countries. She was also a technical officer on the USAID-funded IMMUNIZATIONbasics project, working on new vaccine introduction and alternative service delivery strategies. Previous positions include serving as technical director for advocacy and health systems on AED's CHANGE project, working on advocacy strategies for global immunization, and introducing behavioral approaches into activities to strengthen integrated disease surveillance and response. Previously, during six years as co-chair of the immunization working group of the BASICS I project, and prior to that as coordinator of immunization activities for the REACH project, she supported country-level immunization system strengthening activities in over 15 countries. As an employee of the Program for Appropriate Technology for Health (PATH) for 18 years, she worked on the development and field testing of vaccine vial monitors that are now commonly in use on vaccines administered in Africa and Asia.
