Robert Kelly
Dr. Robert Kelly serves as the Chief of Project for the Mekong Infectious Diseases - Behavior Change and Communication project, in addition to working as the Senior Research Advisor in Asia for the PREVENT project, both of which are involved in developing communication strategies for the prevention of avian and human influenza, malaria, dengue, and other emerging zoonotic diseases. He also serves in a regional representational and management role for overseeing activities in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, India, Laos PDR, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and elsewhere in the region. Previously, he has provided HIV and AIDS technical assistance and training to professionals and institutions in Africa and Asia, including five years on the influential Rakai Study in Uganda. His areas of specialization include research design and analysis, program design and implementation (IDU, MSM, FSW, VCT), social marketing, network analysis, GIS, and program and staff management. He has participated in the development of training manuals on many subjects, including peer education and capacity-building for local HIV-related NGOs. Prior to joining AED, he was Country Director and Chief of Project for FHI in Bangladesh, and before that he was Deputy Director on the USAID-funded AIDSMark project with PSI, where he was responsible for M&E and research issues. He has written several papers and presentations, including articles on male circumcision and cross-generational sexual relationships. He was a Peace Corps volunteer in Gambia, 1984 – 87. He holds a PhD in Population Dynamics (Johns Hopkins University); a Master of Regional Planning (Cornell University); and a B.S. in Conservation and Resource Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.
