Sandra Kong
Sandra Kong, MPH, has over eight years of experience in international health programmatic and research activities. In her current position as Program Officer, Sandra provides technical assistance on behavior change communication and advocacy to multiple projects, such as the USAID-funded micronutrients project A2Z and the USAID- and CDC-funded Making Medical Injections Safer project. She has experience in program strategy, research, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation and her technical areas of expertise include family planning, reproductive health, maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, and TB. Prior to joining AED, Sandra spent three years at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) working on HIV/AIDS and TB prevention projects in behavior change, health communications, training, and community participation. Specifically at the Global AIDS Program of the CDC, she worked on a behavior change strategy called Modeling and Reinforcement to Combat HIV/AIDS (MARCH) being implemented in Botswana, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe as part of the PEPFAR initiative. In addition, she completed a two-month temporary assignment to Zimbabwe, where she worked with CDC staff and local partners on a community-based HIV/AIDS prevention project. Sandra received her BA in Anthropology from Boston University and her MPH in International Health from Emory University. She completed her masters thesis work with Save the Children on a three-month formative research project addressing safe motherhood in rural Malawi. While at Emory, she also worked at CARE and The Center for Pan Asian Community Health Services. Prior to graduate school, Sandra spent two years at Pathfinder International in program operations for the sub-Saharan Africa region, where she worked in Kenya and Nigeria as well. She is a native Korean speaker, and also speaks some Spanish.
