Tula Michaelides brings over 16 years of experience in health communication, most recently providing communication and knowledge management support to a variety of global USAID projects addressing avian influenza, pandemic influenza, HIV/AIDS, nutrition and food security, malaria, tuberculosis, family planning and reproductive health, and water and sanitation. Her technical expertise includes strategy, campaign, and product development; knowledge management; public relations; training; qualitative research; and community outreach and advocacy. Prior to joining AED, Ms. Michaelides worked on health education programs for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health, including national campaigns on type 2 diabetes for the National Institute on Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), on addiction for the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA), and on vaccination and traumatic brain injury for the CDC. She also spent five years as a medical/science reporter, and several years as a health policy analyst and patient education advisor for a variety of pharmaceutical companies. Ms. Michaelides holds a Masters degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and is also a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) and crisis counselor. A native Greek speaker, she also speaks Spanish and Russian.
