Thaddeus Pennas

Thaddeus (Thad) Pennas is a Senior Communication Specialist with the C-Change program. Prior to joining AED, Thad was a vice president in the Corporate and Public Affairs group for Edelman Public Relations. While at Edelman, he led a number of award-winning advocacy, communication and behavioral change communications projects for a wide variety of Fortune 500 companies, non-profits, and government agencies. From 2003-2006, Thad was the Communication and Social Mobilization Advisor with Stop TB Partnership, housed by the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland. While at Stop TB, he served as the country-level focal point for TB communications and was responsible for the development and implementation of the Stop TB Partnership’s Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization (ACSM) 10-year strategic plan. He coordinated a technical assistance mechanism to support more than 37 developing countries in designing and implementing national-level strategic communication plans to combat TB. He also directed the development of communication and behavioral change guidelines, toolkits, and training workshops on TB control for WHO. Prior to his time at Stop TB, Thad was the Health Programs Director at the Voice of America (VOA). At VOA, he supervised and directed a $25 million-dollar USAID-funded health reporting project, which provided extensive, multi-year radio and TV coverage of polio eradication, malaria, HIV/AIDS, TB, and Anti-Microbial Resistance control efforts across 53 language services. Thad received his B.A. in International Relations from Westfield State College and received his M.S. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University.
