Susan Zimicki
Dr. Susan Zimicki, ScM, PhD, serves as Vice President, leading AED's Infectious Diseases Initiative, and as Technical Director of the PREVENT Project, which focuses on preventing emerging pandemic threats (the next SARS or HIV) using approaches ranging from policy change to increasing individual protective actions. Over the last three decades, she has been a leader in developing and evaluating evidence-based public health interventions in Africa and Asia, with an emphasis on behavior/social change and communications interventions.
Previously at AED, she directed the Communication for Change (C-Change) and Behavior Change Innovation (CHANGE) projects and was senior technical advisor to Behavior Change and Communication Activities on Avian Influenza (AI-BCC), all funded by USAID. Prior to coming to AED, Dr. Zimicki worked at the Harvard Institute for International Development and at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as at ICDDR,B in Bangladesh and as a visiting researcher at the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement in Senegal and the Medical Research Council in The Gambia. Dr. Zimicki currently serves on the WHO/TDR Scientific Advisory Committee on Integrated Community-Based Interventions, the Mebendazole Advisory Committee for Johnson & Johnson, and the Task Force for Global Health. She has a PhD in Demography from the University of Pennsylvania and a ScM in Epidemiology and Tropical Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.
