Avian and Pandemic Flu
FHI 360 conducts programs in countries affected by avian influenza in Africa, Asia, and the Near East to prevent and control bird-to-bird transmission as well as transmission to humans. FHI 360 assists governments and NGOs to carry out integrated strategies that include media, business, and non-governmental organizations in effective prevention and outbreak responses. Programs target poultry farmers, vendors, and consumers to reduce exposure risk and improve backyard bio-security as well as reporting of cases. AED is also working with a consortium of NGOs to help countries prepare for a possible human influenza pandemic.
