HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care

AED works on a wide range of HIV/AIDS mitigation, prevention, treatment, and care programs that address risk reduction among high-risk groups, stigma reduction, prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), improving treatment, nutrition, and mitigating the food security and livelihood impacts of HIV/AIDS. Around the world, AED is working with a range of partners to address these issues through multi-sectoral interventions, capacity strengthening efforts for health systems and community-based care givers, and family-, school-, and community-oriented outreach efforts. AED is also addressing the needs of orphans and vulnerable children and reinforcing the programmatic links between treatment, prevention, and care. AED also supports domestic and international response to the pandemic through promoting appropriate use of specialized foods for HIV-infected individuals and food aid for mitigating the impact of HIV. The AED Center on AIDS & Community Health (COACH) was established in 1997 by the Academy for Educational Development to help communities create innovative programs and policies to improve public health.
