Infectious Diseases

In addition to our longstanding work on HIV/AIDS and diarrheal disease, AED has extensive experience combating malaria, tuberculosis, polio, dengue fever, and other infectious diseases. Cross-cutting objectives of AED's work include increasing equitable access to state-of-the-art prevention and treatment, maintaining the efficacy of existing treatments by controlling development of drug resistance and reducing unsafe injections, and providing evidence for program planning through improved information systems and evaluation. Key approaches applied by AED include behavior change communication, policy advocacy, community mobilization, development of job aids and training for all levels of providers, and development of public-private partnerships, including pioneering work with the commercial sector on the marketing of bednets for prevention of malaria.
