Afghanistan REACH (2003 - 2006)
REACH (Rural Expansion of Afghanistan's Community-Based Health Care) was a USAID-funded program that worked with the Afghanistan Ministry of Health to deliver essential health services to rural women and their children under five. REACH addressed the lack of primary health skills among health professionals through a comprehensive behavior change communication campaign. AED was a subcontractor to Management Sciences for Health on this program, and supported the project through the provision of a BCC Resident Advisor. This Advisor led efforts to implement BCC programs encouraging the adoption of behaviors that reduced morbidity and mortality among mothers and children. In addition, the BCC Resident Advisor worked to build the capacities of the Ministry of Health and the NGO community to plan and conduct effective long-term behavior change programs.
