Action for West Africa Region Reproductive Health and Child Survival Project (AWARE-RH) Project (2003-2008)
Center for Health Policy and Capacity Development. The Action for West Africa Region Reproductive Health and Child Survival Project (AWARE-RH) was a USAID-funded project that aimed to strengthen and sustain the ability of West African institutions to enable public and private sector agencies to meet the reproductive, maternal and child health needs of the region. Of the four strategic objectives, identifying and sharing best practices, advocacy, strengthening of African institutions, and health reform, AED was the lead partner for policy and advocacy and contributed to strengthening African institutions. Under AWARE-RH, AED tracked country implementation of five international treaties and assisted countries to improve their reproductive health, malaria, and maternal and neonatal health policies. AED also helped regional institutions develop management, marketing and technical skills so that these organizations could become regional resources that could provide technical leadership and assistance to countries throughout West Africa to improve their population’s health status.
