Basic Support for Institutionalizing Child Survival (BASICS) (2004-2009)

Center for Health Policy and Capacity Development. BASICS III was a follow-on global project that supported USAID missions and countries to scale up and increase the use of child health and nutrition interventions by families, communities, and health systems. Primary technical areas of the program included the CDD (control of diarrheal disease) and ARI (acute respiratory infection), malaria, newborn health, nutrition, and promoting and building capacity in IMCI and community-based treatments. The project also focused on two new service areas: delivery in vulnerable countries and pediatric HIV/AIDS. AED provided technical assistance under the project in the areas of behavior change communication (BCC), malaria, and nutrition.
