Ethnographic and Network Assessment of the Role of Sexual and Social Relations in the Prevention of HIV Infection in Côte d'Ivoire and Zambia (2009 - 2010)

This project examines the role of transactional sex and associated HIV risk in Côte d’Ivoire and Zambia. It uses a network approach, exploring the influence of sexual, social, labor, and environmental networks on risk of HIV infection among women participating in the production and sale of agricultural products on risk of HIV infection. The project includes a qualitative component (structured observations, community mapping, focus groups, key informant and in-depth individual interviews) and a quantitative structured network survey. This study phase is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and will be used for intervention development.
