Social Change

Social change approaches involve strategies to shift societal norms and other environmental factors to bring about large-scale behavior change. Strategies address communities, organizations, policies, laws, and popular culture, as well as individuals. This approach can produce sustainable changes in social behavior at scale, but requires an advanced level of mobilization and coordination and a long-term implementation perspective.  FHI 360's SCALE® framework (originally developed for environmental programs) catalyzes action among multiple players from multiple sectors; at multiple levels (national, regional, community, and family); supporting multiple behavioral and technological options; through the application of multiple social change methodologies.
